How To Experience Death For Beginners by Jessica Branton

how to experience death for beginnersHappy Valentine’s Day, Night Owls! Today’s review will be on How to Experience Death for Beginners by Jessica Branton. This is her debut, which she wrote when she was fourteen and is just now getting it published. In this book, we follow a girl who can enter people’s minds the moment they die. I gave this book 2/5 stars. I was kindly sent an ARC from the publisher for an honest review so, a big thanks to them for sending me a copy.

Casey Darling is quiet teenager who just started her senior year of high school in a small town in Georgia. Casey isn’t your average teenager, she can see the very moment someone dies. Everything seems to be going well until this new kid, Cameron, has moved to town from sunny California. Cameron’s arrival has brought a serial killer to town. Now, Casey has to deal  with Cameron’s interest in her, catch the serial killer with the help of the FBI, and graduate from high school.

The concept of this book was really interesting to read, but it did have its faults. I didn’t really understand how Casey inherited her powers and whether or not Christina had powers too. Normally, I enjoy reading first person narration, but “I” was overused throughout the book. There were strong number of well-developed character arcs, but some of character arcs, like Christina and Danny, needed more development. For instance, I did not realize until halfway through the book that Casey and Christina were twins. What I did really enjoy was when the identity of the killer was revealed because that was unexpected.

While this wasn’t the best thing I’ve read, if you want a quick read than this is for you. I definitely think Jessica Branton has great potential as a writer. This story just wasn’t for me.

Happy Reading Night Owls!

Trouble Never Sleeps by Stephanie Tromly

trouble never sleepsHappy Friday, Night Owls! It’s Kat here with yet another review. Trouble Never Sleeps by Stephanie Tromly is the conclusion her Trouble Is A Friend of Mine series. Thank you Penguin Teen for sending me an ARC! I’m sad to see this series come to an end because it really grew on me. I gave the book 5/5 stars.

We pick after the events of the second book. Zoe and Digby share that kiss we’ve all been waiting for. They are now officially together! The gang is still trying to find Digby’s sister. Digby has a lead, but that lead involves dealing with an all high and powerful family. It may also involve committing a little bit of treason. Zoe is up for whatever comes her way, even if it is totally unexpected. Zoe and Digby are the crime solving couple we’ve all been waiting for.

Man, did this series go out with a bang! I enjoyed every minute reading it and I hope you guys do too. Go out and buy yourself a copy on April 24, 2018. You won’t regret it!

Happy Reading!

People Like Us by Dana Mele

people like usHey, Night Owls it’s Kat! I hope your day is going well and I’m very excited to share my thoughts on this novel. First things first, I want to thank Penguin Teen for sending me the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC).

People Like Us is Dana Mele’s debut novel. It’s sort of a Pretty Little Liars meets Gossip Girl story. In this YA thriller, we follow Kay Donovan after she finds the body of classmate, Jessica. Jessica left Kay an embedded revenge list on her computer.

Kay Donovan is a senior and star soccer player at Bates Academy. One night while she out with her friends, they discover the body of Jessica. Later on Kay discovers an email from Jessica asking her to get revenge on some people. Kay thinks that completing these tasks will lead her to the killer. Now she is tangled in the middle of Jessica’s murder investigation. Bates Academy is full of secrets and Kay is out to find them.

I really enjoyed this debut! If you want to read a quick thriller this is the book for you.

Happy Reading!
